Benefits of CoQ10 to PD Patients

What are the benefits of CoQ10 (COENZYME Q-10) to Parkinson’s Disease patients?

Also called by these names: Coenzyme Q10, CoQ, CoQ10, CoQ-10, Mitoquinone, Ubidecarenone, Ubiquinol, Ubiquinone, Q10

Benefits

For the Heart

  • Essential for a healthy heart, those who take CoQ10 supplements to improve cardiovascular health may also receive benefits of lowered blood pressure levels.
  • Heart patients are often given prescription medications, known as statin, that lower their blood cholesterol, but statins also lower CoQ10 levels, which may cause dry skin. Supplementing the diet with CoQ10 will counter this effect and provide the heart with protection from further oxidative damage.

Recommended Dosage

Dr. Perricone recommends that those who are under the age of 40 supplement their diet with 30 to 100 milligrams of CoQ10 per day.

  • Those who are over the age of 40 should take 100 milligrams daily.
  • Dosage amounts should be divided between breakfast and lunch.
  • Those who are taking CoQ10 because they have heart disease should ask their physician what dosage is right for them.
